Tray tooltip

I’d imagine it would be pricey to UPS a computer… I stand on my offer though

Hallo!
So, I installed new version of WW and the problem is partially fixed. Now sometimes is WW tooltip is viewed behind taskbar (not other apps), but next time (immediately after that) I view tooltip it’s viewed correctly.

Before installing new version I found next problem. I’m using old windows mediaplayer (you can start it from command by “mplayer2”, don’t discuss why I’m using it). I’m using it with hiding controllpanel in fullscreen mode. Before new WW (5.6.14D) was blocked hiding of controlpanel in fullscreen. When was WW not running, was it OK. Somebody told me it is probably caused by improper method to demand top position of WW tooltip (I don’t know). This problem is fixed by WW5.6.14D too.

I don’t know if the WW window have to be focussed above taskbar, but I don’t require it. A few days ago Mike told me something about winamp partially hiden behind taskbar. My settings of winamp is not “allways on top”.

To Mike Singer:
If you have another questions, tell me…

Nice to know I wasn’t alone.

You sure? This looks like a different problem…

I was able to reproduce the same problem on my computer. The build below fixed the problem for me. Does it fix the problem for you too?

Download Weather Watcher 5.6.14e

EdP, do you still have IE 7 installed somewhere?

To Mike Singer:
It looks good! Immedietly after installing WW 5.6.14e the problem with sometimes skinned tooltip covered by taskbar didn’t come.
I think this version is hot candidate for new release.
Good job Mr. Singer!

PS: I’m very happy you fixed my problem. Thank you.

Do note that the window the Toolbar is behind is not an IE 7 window. And after taking the screen shot I could not replicate the behavior.

Maybe a reboot will help.

<Update>

I haven’t rebooted yet, but I did position the WW Toolbar such that it overlays the Taskbar. This is what I see now.

EdP, please open your Windows Task Manager and close down everything that is currently running (other than what is used by Windows). Try running Weather Watcher at that point and see what happens.

Choose away:

Only things running in the Taskbar are IE, WW and Task Mgr. In the System Tray are the time, Dell Quickset, tinySpell, Avast AV, WW, Volume, unplugged NIC and the Dell Wireless WLAN Card utility.

And the Tooltip is working fine as I write this but was disappearing earlier.

Do you have any idea what changed between then and now?

I opened IE to surf to you and I had Paint open to capture the screen prints. I also had the WW forecast and Options windows open and I moved the Tooltip’s location a bit.

That’s it.

I don’t know if there is anything I can do unless you can give me enough information to be able to reproduce the problem.

Well one thing I noticed today, after opening the nb and the WiFi connection was made the Tooltip was behind my WE window and after I open IE it was behind that window also.

The Tooltip started coming on top after I opened the WW forecast window. So there seems to be a link between the two. The code to bring up the forecast window must be initializing/clearing something the Tooltip code is looking for.

<Update>

And now it’s behind IE, and Taskbar, again. And reopening the WW forecast window brings it to the front. And it again stays coming to the front after the WW forecast window is closed.

Any chance the mini interface or forecast is involved in this?

hahahaha

I may have a clue. I opened IE without going to a specific website and it opened MSN.com. MSN.com has a Flash ad. After opening MSN.com the WW Tooltip was again behind the Taskbar and IE 7 window.

I then RIGHT clicked on the ad and it is indeed a Flash ad and with the ad’s properties still showing the Tooltip appears on top of the IE 7 window. :thumbright:

Unfortunately it also appears in back of the Taskbar. :-s :???:

The situation continues on this page also. Opened the WW forecast window and now everything normal again.

Oops, spoke too soon. Tooltip now in back of IE window and Taskbar again.

EdP, here is a new build for you to try:
Weather Watcher 5.6.14f

Thanks Mike, I’ve installed it and will give it a try.

One thing I noticed when I 1st opened the nb today, with no windows open and a clean desktop, when I positioned the mouse over the WW icon the Tooltip opened in front of the Taskbar and when I dbl clicked the WW icon to update the temp the bottom of the Tooltip momentarily disappeared behind the Taskbar and then came back in front.

Just checked, same with the new version.

I also noticed that when the Tooltip appears and is in front the app, IE 7 in this case, botton on the Taskbar changes from depressed to flush. I’ll try to see what it does when the Tooptip is not in front. (Course with 14f that may never happen again so… )

BTW so far 14f is acting very well. :thumbright: What did you change?

I’ve been on the nb for about an hour now and visited numerous websites include MSN and their Flash ad and whenever I tried the WW Tooltip it’s been in front of the Taskbar and wherever app window was open on the desktop.

Wow, 14f looks like a winner. :thumbright: Will it work with IE 6? I may try it on my XP desktop. And on a Win 2k and Win 98 system.

What did you change?

I was able to reproduce this problem, but not since I installed 5.6.14d.

I just wanted to say that I like what may have been an “unintended feature” of the newer builds. If I have the main WW window open, work on something else in front of it, and finally move my mouse over the tray icon, not only does the tooltip come up but it brings the main WW window to the front as well! When you move away, the tooltip goes away and the main window goes back from whence it came. Very useful!

I am assuming it will. I’ll try it out tomorrow to be sure.

I used a different method to display the skinned tooltip window. I didn’t notice a difference on my computer, but it seems to be working for those who were having trouble, so I think we’ll go with it in the next Weather Watcher release.

Great news… thanks for your feedback

I’m not sure why that happens. It’s not something I manually coded… seems to be the way Windows operates. When accessing other programs that have multiple windows open, I notice the same behavior on my computer.
