WWL V7.0.58 Not updating "Now" Weather Map

This is on Windows 7 SP1 x64 Professional, WWL V7.0.58, IE9 RC

I have my Update frequency set to 5 minutes. However, when I open WWL, the Now weather map is typically 2-3-4 hours behind. Running an Update manually brings it up to date within the normal 1 hour refresh frequency for the weather map below.

It appears to me that the weather map update should be checked and update on each 5 minute update frequency. However that is not happening.

I was not able to reproduce this issue using the build below. Give it a try and let me know if it resolves the issue.

V7.0.63 does not fix the problem

If you look at the attached pics, you see that the “BeforeManualUpdate” time is 1:00 a.m. Then after manually updating the time is 2:15 a.m.

V7.0.66 appears to be updating the NOW weather map.

Thanks much for the fix…whatever it was.

Although it initially appeared that V7.0.66 resolved this update issue, I find that it did not fix it. It still requires that a manual update be initiated to bring the map up to date when viewing the Now window.

Did this issue exist in version 7.0.50? Here’s that build if you want to fall back and verify:

I reverted back to V7.0.50 and it does not keep the map updated either.

I started having an “update” problem again as well. The “downloaded time” time in the tool tip is current but the actual “'Observed” time is several hours off.

Please try reinstalling using the following installer:

Updated to V7.0.67 on Win 7 SP1 x64 Professional.

After 1 hour of running, the NOW map is staying updated. The map URL issues a new update every ~15 minutes and my update frequency is set to 5 minutes.

I’ll keep monitoring and report back again after several hours of run time.

My “updating” issue did not manifest again last night. (version 7.066). I will let it run again today (now version 7.067).

V7.0.67 is keeping the map up-to-date as long as the computer is busy doing something. However, once the computer is left idle, the updates stop. They resume again shortly after the computer is put back in use.

  1. The WWL option “Do not retrieve weather if screen saver is running” is unchecked.

  2. On my dual monitor system, I have the multi-monitor program DisplayFusion installed. It assumes control of the screen saver. However, I have the screen saver turned off in DisplayFusion. I have flat panel displays which do not need a screensaver.

  3. In an effort to isolate this problem, I used gpedit.msc to change 3 policies to see if it made a difference.

  • Local Computer Policy>User Configuration>Administrative Templates>Control Panel>Personalization>Enable screen Saver>Disabled.

  • Local Computer Policy>User Configuration>Administrative Templates>Control Panel>Personalization>Prevent Changing Screen Saver>Enabled.

  • Local Computer Policy>User Configuration>Administrative Templates>Control Panel>Personalization>Screen Saver Timeout>Disabled.

These changes did not correct the issue.

One other bit of info:

I do have my power settings set for the system to go into Sleep Mode after 30 minutes of idle. However, I am running gadget SLAG to play music via Windows Media Player during this test to keep Sleep from occurring. In WMP, I do have the option selected that permits activating the screensaver even though WMP is running unchecked.

siliconman01, try temporarily disabling Sleep Mode and see if that makes a difference.

Disabling sleep does not resolve the problem.

Disabling turning off the display does not resolve the problem.

Oddly my three magnets stay up to date on their frequency interval during all this.

siliconman01, I’m not sure what’s going on. I can put together a custom build that logs some data. That way we’ll be able to see what’s going on at each update interval. Sound good?

Yes, that sounds very good. Let’s do it.

Please see your email.

Mike,

I sent you an email with a WWL7067T log attached. It spans a time frame of ~75 minutes of computer idle time during which period the NOW map stopped updating and ended up being 4 updates behind when I checked it.

Hope this helps discover the problem.

WWL7067T is not updating the NOW regularly even if the system is busy. I just checked it and the map was 1 hour behind. :???:

Could this be a “display” issue instead of an update issue? What I mean by that is that perhaps the downloaded current map is in fact there; however, when opening the GUI, it does not pick up the new map and display it in the map window. Just a thought.
