If anyone wants to know why WWC (Weather Watcher Classic) stopped working again recently. The new owner of the weather channel which is IBM is now charging per so many hits on their API (data feed) and they took the old free data feed down.

Here is a link to the page where you can buy hit packages to IBMs data feed if you are a software developer. https://console.ng.bluemix.net/catalog/ … r-weather/

I don’t think IBM owns The Weather Channel. But, it is true that they sell their weather data. They’ve been selling it for many years now.

I like this plan your link showed.

Pick a plan

Monthly prices shown are for country or region: United States

500 Calls Per Day

yes, but I’m sure you understand that even if I used the free plan to repair WWC, I could not share a copy of it with anybody, because the free plan would quickly run out of data feed hits. And I’m not gonna buy a paid plan just so a bunch of schmoes could have WWC working again for free. If there was somekind of group effort to buy a paid feed plan, that might be a diff story, which I highly doubt would ever happen on here. Mike told me he didn’t care if I tried to fix WWC and I have it tore down in a decomplier right now, for my own purposes.

Mike,

If you google “IBM buys part of weather channel” you’ll find that last October IBM bought The Weather Company, which is the parent company of Weather dot com and Weather Under Ground (IBM now owns Weather Underground also). Recently at the bottom of weather dot com’s website, it says that IBM owns all of the above I have listed. The only thing that IBM did not buy was the weather TV channel (because they didn’t want it). I have also read that the weather TV channel is going to lease back data from IBM for their operation. I have also read some popple think that the weather channel won’t last long without any weather data of their own. IBM took ownership of the weather company about 3 weeks ago and moved everything to https secure domains and crashed all legacy gadgets and programs based on weather dot com’s data.

What about a copy that someone could run with their own IBM account?

And at the bottom of weather.com pages now is:

The Weather Channel
An IBM Business

So PCuser is definitely correct.
