Ver 5.6.25 Getfile.exe crashes

This error occurs every 5 minutes or so:
GetFile.exe - Application Error
The instruction at “0x101d02237” referenced memory at “0x0100a1dc”. The memory could not be “written”.

WW keeps on running, but the same error recurs. I also get the following debug dialog:

Weather Watcher Downloader has encountered a problem.
Error signature
AppName: getfile.exe AppVer: 1.0.0.0 Modname: msvbvm60.dll
ModVer: 6.0.97.82 Offset: 00e3b8a

Be sure your firewall, AV or AS isn’t blocking WW’s new GetFile program.

Discloop, try checking for Windows updates at:
http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com

Any particular update to look for? The new Silverlight browser plugin? .Net3?

Interesting suggestions.

I’m assuming the issue is being caused by an outdated Windows install. The only way to find out would be to bring it up-to-date

An interesting assumption.

Not so much…

wel i have get file set to full acess in mcafee firewall…

and i have my update intervull set to 5 mins…

and sometimes its fine…

but a few times an hour it says getfile crashes…

and git file needs to close…

then i manuialy upodate the prog…

dose any1 know whats caseing this?

or have a work around…

bc i love this programe just this dam bug is annoying LOL

Try setting update frequency to 15 mins.

dosent help no matter what intervull i set…

evian so this shouldent happen in the first place and needs to be fixed no ifs ands or buts

its dam annoying and has been happing in olderversions for a while now

Older versions didn’t have GetFile. Sounds like you have another app using the same name.

no bt the erro has always been since i started useing the prog last may…

get file is just compounding the issue…

i think it has to do with how the prog is acessing the data…

and i dont think wheather.com has sanchiond this prog…

bc thay have desktop wheather witch is just spy ware laden and bloated…

hell desktop wheather cased my cpu ot overheat and shup down LOL

I think your pc has a memory problem. The RAM is defective, running at the wrong refresh rate, or getting overheated due to lack of cooling.

doubt its that…bc i have no other problomes with any other prigs…

and i have a dell monerting until

that reads my mem at 107 firenhight

with a peek of 111…

its def WW issue…and needs to be fixed bc its dam annoying…

and the creatior saying that its not the prog

is like the motzilla team saying ther arnt any mem leaks in firefox…

when there very clearly are…

lets just fix this stupid issue

Well there are a few million WW users who don’t have the problem you are experiencing which implies there is something unique to your system, especially one where

which implies a machine cooling problem.

Without knowing what makes your system unique debugging is impossible.

ok destop wheather is a terrably codedded prog…-.-

and less then.1% of the users actuly visit the forum -.-

most dont evian know there is a forum for this prog…

and i highly doubt this prog is bassed on destop wheather…bc it dosent eat resorces like the spy ware laden destop wheather…

unless you can proove other wise then shut it…

bc there is a problome…

i have experinced it since last may…

and there has been the same complaints since last may…

i just finialy got this prog back since loseing the maxamim pc cd with had this prog on it…

like firfox there is an issu and it fucking needs to be fixed…

you and the creatior say theres no problome…

but just bc it works fine on ne system dosent mean it will work fine all all of them…

it needs to be adressed…

bc it shouldent be happeing in the first place…

unless you can prove other wise the quit saying there isent a problome

angelwolf71885, I don’t recall saying there isn’t a problem. I do realize that everyone’s Windows install is a little different, so it’s quite possible that Weather Watcher will act differently when installed on different computers.

It would be helpful if you would answer the following questions:

1) Which version of Windows are you using?

2) When is the last time you installed Windows updates?

3) Do you see the same “GetFile.exe” error message that Discloop posted above?

4) Do you ever see the “GetFile.exe” error message when you manually update the weather by clicking the “UPDATE” button on the main Weather Watcher window?

5) Are you using the Weather Watcher wallpaper feature?

6) As EdP pointed out, “GetFile.exe” was not part of the Weather Watcher install in May 2006. That said, please give me some more information about the issues you’ve been experiencing between then and now. It would be most helpful if you would be as detailed as possible when describing any issues. If you have any screenshots of error messages, then please post them here.

All anyone running the app has to do is RIGHT click on the tray’s icon for links to the website so I think you’re wrong about the number of people that know. The percentage of those that visit is probably correct because few people have problems with WW

prove other wise the quit saying there isent a problome

Unless you provide details of your system; RAM, processor, OS, AV, AS, FW, apps, utilities, games and etc debugging your problem is impossible.

Oh, and don’t forget specifying where you are in applying Windows’ Updates.

Complaining without providing the information neccessary to help won’t accomplish much.

sorry to be snippy but im just not haveing a good time were im liveing right now…

tampa florida very hot here…and no good cooling mechanisem…

kinda has me on edge…

Getfile.exe errors

The errors no longer occur on my PC. The Windows s/w seems up-to-date. Perhaps the problem was due to an interaction with other apps. I have WW 5.6.25 installed on 2 other machines with no problem.

I’ll post more info if I learn something new, but am happy with WW again.
