What do you see in the taskbar instead?

Does everything look okay in the main Weather Watcher window?

What about the tooltip, which was the focus of 7.3.7?. Ironically, since this release I can’t get the tooltip to display at all anymore.

What happens when you revert back to version 7.3.6?

Same problem, but now I’m confused, since that was the version I was using as recently as yesterday, and tooltips absolutely were working.

The only thing I did when putting on the newer version is to enable the new item you mentioned was included (along with one other), but I later unchecked them on the theory that they were part of the problem.

Is there some master Off switch for tooltips that I might have inadvertently set? I don’t see it, if it exists.

Yes, I suspected it likely wasn’t related to the new version, but I just wanted to confirm.

Assuming you didn’t uninstall the old version of Weather Watcher or manually delete its registry settings (neither of which is recommended), all of your previous settings should have been retained when installing the new version over the old one. None of your tooltip related settings should have changed. However, you can double-check the settings in the Tray Icon → Tooltip section of the Weather Watcher Options window to ensure everything is configured as expected.

Yes, that’s located here:

Ah, OK. While I didn’t have that set, what I do have set (and have all along) is “Skinned tooltip,” and that’s the one not working here for some reason, including in the version that it had been working on. “Standard Windows tooltip” is fine.

Is it possible that the new version, despite being reverted to the previous one now, changed something to affect the old version? I can’t otherwise explain it.

No.

Make sure you don’t have this setting enabled. If enabled, it’s possible the skinned tooltip is displaying somewhere outside of your visible display area.

Wow, the things I don’t know exist are legion. That was not checked (more on that below), but I checked it now and selected a place directly to the left of the toolbar (which is vertical, explaining how I can do that). And that works!

The item, probably purposely, doesn’t stay checked, so it being unchecked/checked wasn’t evidence of use or lack of use, but I know that I didn’t know this feature existed, so I couldn’t have used it before, at least remotely recently. Especially since I would have had to have used it in the last 24 hours (given that the the same skinned tooltip was working yesterday).

So, all’s well that ends well, and not everything can necessarily be explained, but my guess is that the new version wanted to (by default) put the skinned tooltip in a slightly different location than before, and it was obscured behind the toolbar (despite being much wider than it, which should have made it obvious to me but didn’t).

Edit: Oh, I know what does it now: adding or subtracting from the tooltip list, which I did do yesterday, as mentioned earlier. When you do that, the location resets. This is fine though, since how often does anyone do that, though ideally the location would be remembered.

Thanks

No, it should definitely stayed checked when enabled. I fixed that in version 7.3.8.

Yes, looks good. The tooltip position also now doesn’t reset when adding/subtracting tooltips, so there was a bonus fix.
