McAfee SiteAdvisor

If you want to join in with me, e-mail Andrew_Lebrun[at]McAfee.com. He works for SiteAdvisor. The squeaky wheel gets the oil. Help me squeak

What baffles my mind is that they still label it “green”, even after they list 5 downloads which contained trojans/viruses/adware.

Seems perfectly safe to me. eyeroll

Just goes to show that you should have your own protection from browsing/downloading the internet.
I personally don’t pay any attention to the “safety rating” of websites – for this exact reason.

Me neither. Even though, I bet the majority of non-savvy computer users (most computer users) would believe anything a company as well known as McAfee told them. I like the idea of rating websites, but they need to put some effort into it. Otherwise, the whole idea is kind of bogus… and they might even risk being sued for defamation of character (or something related to that).

An interesting related article. (imo)

Yeah, Spyware Warrior is a really good site to visit to see who is being passed off as legitimate by well-known companies.

In addition, here is a startling account of some such rogue infestations, through (of all places) job sites:

Will do.

Regarding the issues with McAfee SiteAdvisor, the following link is a good read:

… and another:

which leads to this link, which you ought to fill out and start an email discussion with, if you haven’t already.

In fact, I would use the link to this topic as good background info - it shows the BetaNews link, plus your attempts to mitigate the problem, and shows the research you’ve been doing, and enlisting us (at least those of us brave enough to come down this far in the forum!) to help you.

And I don’t mean this to be an attack on BetaNews - I use them frequently to get new Betas - but McAfee is being completely unfair about it toward you.

johngalt, the only problem is that SiteAdvisor will not respond. That’s pretty much what everyone in those posts have said though.

Sorry, I meant with Andrew Lebrun.

Hell, I’ll include all the links for the various stuff you researched and this topic and the topic I continued with at Calendar of Updates.

Maybe that will generate some interest.

Yes, that is who I was talking about too. He is ignoring his e-mails…

How can anyone trust a company that doesn’t even respond in some way? Even a form letter would be better than nothing. They seem to just blatantly brush off most of their e-mail.

The topic at CoU is this one:

Which, in turn, links to this blog:

and later links to this topic and the links you posted.

Suffice it to say, I am dropping SiteAdvisor and going with Robot Genius, and TrendSecure instead. I am going to try out SiteHound as well, but SiteAdvisor is permanently gone from my side.

The last link you posted was a very … interesting read. At first glance it would seem to be a bit on the subjective side, but as I stated in my last post at CoU, based on what I have seen with my own eyes, I tend to believe it is more fact than fiction.
