Still not working for me with 5.6.20c.

I’m sorry but if you describe the device/machine as a “calculator” then that is what it is. I just programmed my TV’s remote last night and it’s still a remote, not a computer.

Ah yes I remember those also. I remember one higher level programmer never bothering to put seq numbers in his source cards until his program fell off the cart he was using to bring it to the computer room. I don’t remember exactly but I think the tray held 2 1/2 boxes which means 5000 cards had to be resequenced, by hand.

And I remember submitting a job that consisted of 122 boxes of cards, the whole database of the mortgage system.

The memories indeed. :thumbright:

A hacker even back then, I was in great demand around the computer lab because I knew how to program the 029 keypunch drum card to automatically punch sequence numbers into columns 72-80 (and also how to use the sorter)

Well, I apologize for (further) hijacking this thread, but it is fun!

skst, I’ll have to take another look at that. It’s on my to-do list… I promise

I’ve seen a punch card in college once. Does that count?

We had several 026s plus the 029s. And we had 2 programs, one for the Assembler programs and one for the COBOL programs. Although the Assembler one could be used for both it made the COBOL listings look unprofessional.

It depends. Did it have 80 columns or 96 columns?

Here’s what I remember (image from Wikipedia). Note the sequence number PROJ039
