Animated maps not animated

Mike,

I download the update to install the animated maps in the latest beta and there is no movement occuring when I set the animated maps as wallpaper. Why?

hmmmm does Windows support gifs for the desktop?

If I select a gif for my Win XP wallpaper it doesn’t show up at all. So the question becomes how is WW making animated gifs display as desktop wallpaper, even if they are static?

On Windows XP SP2 (which is what I am running), I can use a .GIF for my wallpaper. If the .GIF is animated, it only shows one frame of the animation, so it looks like a static image.

In older versions of Windows, it was possible to enable the Active Desktop feature. I guess Microsoft got rid of the Active Desktop in Windows XP.

There is a similar feature in the “Display” section of the Windows Control Panel. You can also access the Display Properties window by right-clicking a blank area of your desktop and choosing “Properties”. Once there, click the “Desktop” tab, click “Customize Desktop…”, and click the “Web” tab. It’s possible to manually set up animated wallpaper via this Windows feature.

click the "Web" tab.
Must be a Win XP Pro version feature. It's not an option on my Win XP Home SP2 system. Same with the ability to use GIFs for the Desktop.

I do have Pro.

Mike,

Just how do you set up the “Web” tab in XP Pro?

Click the “New” button and enter the path to the image (e.g. http://www.weather.com/rain.gif")

Mike, so I take it,correct me if I am wrong, the new animated maps in the WALLPAPER tab you have now included in the latest 5.6 beta 8, do not animate in Windows XP Pro SP2 by just selecting what animated map I want and expecting it to work? Is this something that you did not realize?

THANKS!!

wtd6e, Weather Watcher sets the map as regular Windows wallpaper, which isn’t the same thing as the Web tab that we were discussing. I’m sure there is some way to auto enable the Web feature, but it might do more harm than good.
