Splendid forecast skin causes Weather Watcher to crash

Hello.

I am using
Microlink Cosmix
Celeron 300
96 MB Ram

When I choose splendid forecast skin and reload weather data in it, then Weather Watch crashes with illegal operation message. Detailed error is

Do any of the other skins work?

All(Splendid, Windows 98, Windowx XP etc) work as long as forecast skin is Classic. I guess it is something in the Splendid forecast skin what makes WW to crash

The Splendid Forecast skin uses a lot of enhancing javascript code and DOM options. There are other forecast skins that use varying degrees of enhancing. Look in the Weather Watcher Skins section of the forums here, download a couple of different skins and try their forecasts.

What version of IE are you using with Windows 98, IE 6 hopefully. If IE 5 that may be too outdated to be used effectively with WW.

IE 5. But I surf the web using Firefox 2.0 because IE crashed all the time

Your IE crashes all the time because it’s obsolete for today’s modern websites. It should have been updated years ago. At this point I believe it’s too late. Even if you found a CD with IE 6 on it it would not have all the SP updates and monthly patches.

And irregardless of what you use to browse the web Weather Watcher uses the system’s IE install.

Sorry, I think you’re out of luck.

Well, I feel now discriminated. Sadly, every second programmer thinks that I can run to a computer store and buy a new computer at any time. Well, I can’t

Well the IE 6 upgrade was free when MS supported Windows 98 but they stopped supporting it last summer. An OS like a car needs to be maintained to continue running well. And when the patches, upgrades and updates are free there is no excuse not to install them. You don’t need a new computer you need an updated OS.

You don’t have to go to a store to buy a computer or software, you can buy them online. e-Bay would be a good place to start.

I was meaning that I cannot afford new computer(at least at the moment)

But nevermind, I decided to make my own skin, with my home village nature views on it and temperatures and air pressures displayed as progress bars.

That sounds pretty cool Tarmo, can you post the code you used? Or upload it somewhere for us to download?

Tarmo sent the skin files to me. I’m going to post them in the Weather Watcher Skins forum.
