Severe weather balloon stopped working

I’m using WW 5.6.22 and the severe weather balloon stopped working. I still get the pop sound when there’s an alert, but no balloon. I have uninstalled, manually cleaned the registry of all WW entries and reinstalled. I have also used msconfig to stop all applications from starting (loading) except WW-still no balloon.

I have a laptop sitting right next to my desktop and WW works just fine on the laptop. All options are the same.

Any ideas?

Oops, I think I answered my own question. Balloons were disabled, presumably by another program, so I went to the registry: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced and deleted: EnableBalloonTips=dword:00000000.

Now everything seems to be working properly.

“Presumably”!! What other options are there?

Virus?
Spyware?
Hacker?

How about:
Antivirus?
AntiSpyware?
User error?

Considering you knew where to look in the Registry…
