It does. Check out the Weather Watcher maps 
Animated maps are not available for all areas. You can use the Weather Watcher Map Manager to add additional maps.

That should work if using an Active Desktop.
would it not be possible to use the archived wallpapers to create an animation ?
Wallpapers aren’t archieved. New ones overlay the old ones.
If you find a way to accumulate them you can use a utility called Javascript Animator Express from http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/jsae.html to animate them. :icon_smile:
