just sits there......

I have WW 5.6.6 on my laptop and it works great.
I just installed it on my desktop computer and it just sits there. It says it is searching for a city to add, but just SITS there.
What am I doing wrong ?
I have XP Home.
I use Firefox 1.5.0.1
Thanks

Close WW down. Use Task Manager if necessary (C+A+D). Then restart it. I suspect there are some error handling routines missing.

Thanks, I did that and reloaded WW and it still sits there with the glazed look with no activity?

Are you able to access http://www.weather.com with Firefox?

Are you able to access http://www.weather.com with Internet Explorer?

Yes, that weather site works well in both browsers.
Indeed everything I use works except WW.
I am beginning to think there may be a closed port or some other block.
Thanks

Check your antivirus or firewall or antispyware logs and see if any of them have blocked DL.exe from accessing the 'net.

Some av sw flag DL.exe as a virus and some firewalls, such as ZoneAlarm, block outgoing traffic from new/unauthorized programs.

I checked AVG’s log and there was no mention of DL.exe. Could it pe a blocked port ? This is getting weirder because I can see WW’s satellite maps. It’s the programs inability to do a search for a location that is odd.

What do you have running that blocks ports?

What firewall are you running?

Is DL.exe in your Weather Watcher folder?

Yes, DL.exe is there and its size is 28,672. There are no fire walls that I know of running. Do you know of a way to see if any ports are blocked ?

DL.EXE should be using port 80. If your web browser works, then I doubt the problem is port-related.

Search still won’t work…it’s sooooooo frustrating. I have downloaded the latest on both computers and my laptop works GREAT, but the desktop just won’t search for a city…ANY IDEAS ???

Can you add the city’s ZIP code?

The Add City doesn’t work for me either, apparently weather.com changed something on their end, but the Add Code option works.

Ed</font id=“blue”></font id=“size2”>

I can add a zip code but it soon "forgets " it. A while back it would “remember it” buy now it doesnt. When I look at “change acrtive city” nothing is there.

When I add a city to search . It says “searching” but it doesn’t.

for some reason I can now add zip codes, and it “remembers them” but there is still no attempt to retrieve weather. (I still can’t add a city)

iomene I just downloaded the 5.6.8 version and it resolved the issue with Add City searches. When you RIGHT click on the tray icon and then click on About does it show that you are running 5.6.8?

Ed</font id=“blue”></font id=“size2”>

Yes, unfortunately it does say it is version 5.6.8 !

I think it isn’t the program but some small mysterious malsetting on my computer.

I sure miss using the program.
