I am receiving the following message:

An error has occurred!

Try the following:

  1. Check that you are connected to the Internet.

  2. If you’re connected to the Internet, try updating this
    forecast again.

  3. Check that you have the latest version of Weather
Watcher. Either use the “Check for new program
updates” feature in the Weather Watcher system
tray drop-down menu -OR- check at

  4. Check that this forecast exists at

  5. Visit the Singer’s Creations Forum for more suggestions.

I am on step 5. I am obviously on the internet since I am writing this. I have the latest version and my forecast does exist on Anyone have any suggestions? Thanks for your help!

I am getting the same error message. I have not had any problems until today, WW has been working great. But now WW will not work properly, I have updated(already had the latest), uninstalled and reinstalled, still no luck, a friend of mine here in the same town is having no problems with his today, usually we both will have the same errors because there are problems with the program picking up the forecast…I have even shutdown my firewall and closed down all my other protection programs, even lowered my IE security and privacy settings to no avail. Any ideas? I am running 98SE.

Same here, what’s up?
Could this problem be related to anti spyware software? I use the great util Spywareblaster and Spybot Search and Destroy.
I noticed ad-aware has a problem in this field, so this could ben the problem!

btw, how can I reply without quote here??

Hi and greetings from The Netherlands (Holland)

Just found out that deleting the key.ww file in WW’s folder does the trick. This info is in another thread on this site.

Hi and greetings from The Netherlands (Holland)

Try these things:

  1. Delete the “C:\Program Files\Weather Watcher\Key.ww” file and
restart Weather Watcher. Try to retrieve the weather again.

  2. Are you using an authenticated proxy server? If yes, Weather
    Watcher will not work.

  3. Are you using a personal firewall? If yes, then make sure your
firewall is giving Internet access to “C:\Program Files\Weather

  4. Are you using Weather Watcher v5.0.27? If not, you need to
    download and update here:

  5. Delete the contents of the “C:\Program Files\Weather
Watcher\Cache” folder and try retrieving the weather again.

  6. Try reinstalling Weather Watcher using the instructions below:

    A. Shut down Weather Watcher.
    B. Delete the "C:\Program Files\Weather Watcher" folder.
    C. Download and install Weather Watcher from:
  7. If you’ve made it this far and Weather Watcher is still not
working, then please answer the following questions:

    A. What version of Weather Watcher do you have (the version
number is in the lower, right-hand corner -OR- look on
        the About window)?
    B. What version of Windows do you have?
    C. How are you connected to the Internet (dial-up, cable,
        DSL, etc.)?
    D. Are using a personal firewall?
    E. Are you using an authenticated proxy server?
    F. Try going to the "City Code" area of the Weather Watcher
Options and doing a city search via the "Find You City"
button. What happens? Give me as much detail as

A. I am using Weather Watcher 5.0.27
B. I am using Windows 98 SE
C. I am using a Cable Modem
D. I am NOT using a personal firewall
E. I am not using an authenticated proxy server
F. When I use the Find City option it finds my city fine.

After re-installing WW, it retrieved my forecast fine but didn’t have the current weather icon. When I updated the forecast, it went back to the same error message (An Error has occured!) and will not retrieve my forecast again. The temperature is showing on my System Tray next to the clock

Hi Mike,
Just finised your list and more troubles came. Somewhere you save settings with WW because after uninstalling and reinstalling my prefs where still there! Perhaps that’s why I cannot add any city I used to have before uninstalling?
There is no searching going on now, but the last result are shown in the lower right bar!
No city in my setup but the temps for Crete (Gr.) is there 17?C !!
So now I have nothing left, please tell us where you store these settings in the registry
btw, I found trouble before with WW after installing in Program Files\ww. After installing in c:\weather Watcher things where better.
Could this have something to do with the troubles we where having?
I think the problems are not related to a setup. the downloads are coming to my machine only the program gives these error msgs! Think about that…

Same problem here now, reinstalling did not fix this problem either.

A. I am using Weather Watcher 5.0.27
B. I am using Windows XP Pro. SP1 Fully Updated
C. I am using Wireless
D. I am using a personal firewall - ZoneAlarm Pro. - Latest
E. I am not using an authenticated proxy server
F. When I use the Find City option it does not find my city.

God Bless America

I plan to have a fix out on Sunday/Monday night. I’d release it earlier, but I’m away for the weekend. I need to have a life too [:D]

In the meantime, please give the beta a try. I’ve been testing it for over a month, so it works pretty well (very stable too!).

You can download the current 5.0.28 beta here: (case-sensitive)

  • Installation Instructions *

  1. Download and unzip the “BETA502810.ZIP” file to the folder of your
    choice (create a new folder).

  2. Run “WW.EXE” from the above folder.

  3. Set up all of your Weather Watcher options in the Options window. The options are now stored in a .INI file. Each Windows user will have their own custom options.

  • Features In The Works *

  1. Resizable main window
  2. Skinnable interface
  3. Alternate interface language
  4. Set your wallpaper to any map from the Map Manager

  • Feedback? *

Please let me know what you think of the beta. What should doesn’t work? What should I change? What should I add?

The beta works great. THanks a lot man.

God Bless America

Don’t forget to send me any comments about the beta (Bugs, new ideas, cosmetic changes, etc.).

Unfortunately I found a problem!

We Europeans like to use Centegrate and on the beautifull Island of Crete it still is 17.2?C
But in my bar (bottom right)it says 7.2 degrees! Can you fix this?

Hi and greetings from The Netherlands (Holland)

Frans – It does say “17.2” in the tray icon area. You just cannot see the “1” because Windows only allows a set amount of space to display icons in the system tray area. Either get rid of the decimal, or use a different font and/or font size.
