7.0.25 - Severe Alerts for WU Stations

It seems when a severe weather alert occurs for a WU station, clicking on the ‘New Severe Alert’ balloon tip by the tray or choosing ‘View Severe Alerts’ from the tray icon just takes you to http://www.wunderground.com/severe.asp instead of the actual severe alert for that particular station.

Is this expected behavior? With the WB stations, it would take you to the actual alert.

I don’t have a direct link to the severe alerts for Weather Underground weather stations. Try clicking the red alert banner at the top of the main Weather Watcher Live window for quick access to the severe alert information.

Mike,

I’m thinking you should be able to generate the URL for the severe alert page for that area if you know the NWS zone code for that station. It looks like the format of the URL is Local Weather Forecast, News and Conditions | Weather Underground(NWS Zone Code).html

For example, the Severe Weather URL for my area is http://www.wunderground.com/US/NY/072.html

I guess the trick is being able to determine the NWS Zone Code from WU’s data feed – or using another mechanism to identify the NWS zone code based on the active weather station.

Also – you could use WU’s API to pull the actual alerts and display it on the ‘Alerts’ tab within the app – using http://api.wunderground.com/auto/wui/geo/AlertsXML/index.xml?query=(ZIP CODE)

When an alert is available for your area, click the red banner at the top of the main Weather Watcher Live window to view the full alert text. The “ALERTS” button always links back to WeatherBug.com/WUnderground.com.
